For those looking to work in Canada a great place to start is with the Atlantic Provinces. This includes Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. All of these Provinces fall under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. This program allows employers to bring in foreign workers to work in Canada. The employee can then obtain a Canadian work permit and permanent residency within six months.

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is broken up in to three categories. They are:

Atlantic High-Skilled Program

  • The basic requirements of this program are that you
  • have worked in a management, professional or technical/skilled job for at least a year
  • have at least a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education
  • take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French
  • can show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada

Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program

  • The basic requirements of this program are that you
  • have worked in a job that requires a high school education and/or job-specific training for at least a year
  • have at least a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education
  • take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French
  • can show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada

Atlantic International Graduate Program

  • The basic requirements of this program are that you
  • have a degree, diploma or other credential from a publicly-funded institution in an Atlantic province
  • have lived in an Atlantic province for at least 16 months in the 2 years before getting your degree, diploma or credential
  • take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French
  • can show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada

Newfoundland and Nova Scotia have released a list of employers who are already authorized to bring in foreign nationals to work in Canada under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Project. They are known as designated employers.

For those looking to work in Canada in the Province of Newfoundland, you can find the list of employers here.

For those looking to work in Canada in the Province of Nova Scotia, you can find the list of employers here.

An important thing to keep in mind is while these employers are eligible to bring in foreign nationals under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Project, they may not be hiring at this time, so be persistent if you want to find work in Canada!
